Ashland Wins District Convention for 2004

Oh, What a hospitality room...

 WE WON !!!
After many handshakes and an impressive hospitality room, the Ashland Lions Club has won the election to host the District 27-C2 convention in the year 2004. The election was held Saturday afternoon April 20 at the District Convention in Lac du Flambeau. Eighteen  Ashland  lions members and guests attended and all contributed to the efforts.

Lions members each shared different duties at the hospitality room. Es made many food items as Sue, Rod and Sarah were busy with decorations. As the room came together with the help of Fuzzy and Karen, things seemed to appear as another overboard project. When the room opened at 7:00PM however it seemed as if every lion in the district had arrived. Tyler, Pete, and Carey poured drinks as fast as they could. Moose stood at the door and greeted everyone making sure they received a VOTE Ashland sticker. President Jim just ran around adding his 2 cents which few of us listened to.

The Eagle River Lions made a strong showing, posting many more signs all over the hotel and casino than we did. They also stressed their new facilities and enthusiasm to run their first convention.

At the noon luncheon on Saturday Lion Jim Boettcher from Merrill gave the nomination speech on behalf of the Ashland club. Lion Chuck Franz from Rhinelander seconded the nomination and we could only wait for the afternoon elections.

The Governor’s honor banquet was held Saturday evening. District Governor Tom Rondeau from Cable had a very good program including a Necrology service for deceased members from each club. International Director, Dr. Henry Smith gave the address to the members. After the speeches concluded, the election results were announced. Harry Helwig was elected District Governor, Don Ashby Vice– District Governor, and Ashland was awarded the convention.
